We recently advised that all trees in the Colonel’s wood area (trees facing the road at the GAA) had to be removed due to age and general deterioration of the trees. We consulted with the Sallins Biodiversity group, Sallins Tidy towns, Kildare County Council and members of the public and we have found a way to retain most trees by carrying out essential remedial work on 18 trees while removing the 9 trees that have a high risk of falling. The remaining trees will require ongoing maintenance and we will keep you posted on how they are doing.
We will also set up a biodiversity sub committee within the club structure to help support sustainable and biodiverse areas within our grounds. Thanks for all the feedback and it was great to work with all our local groups to find a solution to retain as many of the trees at our much-loved Colonel’s Wood.
Work will commence in January 2023.
