JUVENILE HURLING
Sallins Juvenile hurling club was formed in 2003 when the senior club saw the great potential to develop hurling in our rapidly expanding village. Within two years of formation, the underage club had its first success winning the North Kildare Under 11 Div 2 league. Since then, we have continued to expand & have achieved many successes at all levels including representing Kildare at All Ireland Feile & winning Minor B Hurling Championship & League double in 2021. We now field teams at all ages from under 8 up to minor & many of our players have represented Kildare at all underage levels. The club is fortunate to have a group of dedicated hurling coaches many of them parents of juvenile players. New members, whether they are players, coaches or mentor are always welcome. Juvenile hurling training times are as follows;
Academy, Under 7 & Under 8 : Monday 5.30 – 6.30pm
Under 10 : Monday 6.30–7.30pm
Age13-14 : Tuesday 6.30–7.30pm
Age 15/16 : Monday 7.30–8.30pm
Minor : Friday 7-8pm.
ADULT HURLING
After a gap of 30 years, adult hurling returned to Sallins in 2003. The team fielded in 2003 consisted mainly of “blow-ins” originally from other counties who had moved to the village. After a few initial challenging years, the team began consistently competing for silverware & reached a first county final in 2010 when we were narrowly beater by Coill Dubh in the Senior Hurling League Div 3 final. We reached the Junior championship final in 2016 only to again suffer a narrow defeat to Coill Dubh. Since 2020 we have player as a combined team with Kill under the name Wolfe Tones & after another narrow defeat to Eire Og in the 2022 Junior Final, all the previous disappointments were forgotten when we defeated Confey to claim the Junior Hurling title in 2023. This win is the culmination of many years work by our juvenile club mentors and with the young age profile of the squad there is no reason that they cannot compete strongly in next year’s Intermediate Championship. Training is on Wednesdays 8.30-9.30pm.
